About The SPD Network
About the NetworkThe Sensory Processing Disorder Network (SPD Network) is a project of the KID Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Littleton, Colorado. Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a complex disorder of the brain that affects developing children. Children with SPD misinterpret everyday sensory information, such as touch, sound, and movement. Depending on which type of SPD a child has, he may feel as if he is overwhelmed with information, he may seek out intense sensory experiences, or he might have other symptoms. This can lead to behavioral problems, difficulties with coordination, and other issues. Effective treatment is available, but far too many children with SPD are misdiagnosed and not properly treated. We started this web site in 1996 to help parents, teachers, therapists, doctors, and others learn about and understand Sensory Processing Disorder. It has since become the primary Internet portal for information about these commonly misunderstood disorders.
All of the information on this site has been reviewed by professionals who are experts in the field of Sensory Processing Disorder. You can be assured that what you are reading here is based in sound science. If you’d like to know more about the people who put together this site, please read about our web site review team.
Let Us Know Who You AreThis web site is for you – parents, teachers, occupational therapists, doctors, and anyone else who is involved with Sensory Processing Disorder. The more we know about who you are and what information you are looking for, the more we can improve this site. Please take a moment to fill out our brief registration form. As our thanks, we will start your subscription to our new newsletter, Sensations. Please also consider taking part in a national survey on Sensory Processing Disorder. Your information will help us to define how many people are affected by SPD. Have Any Ideas for Our Site? We’d like to hear your feedback and ideas on what we can do to keep improving this web site, including subject areas you’d like us to cover and links to other sites that you have found helpful. Please email us at editor@kidfoundation.org. We regret that, due to our own heavy workloads and our very small staff, we cannot answer individual questions about Sensory Processing Disorder. Instead, we suggest you search the SPD Resource Directory for a health care professional who can meet with you, or look in the SPD Parent Connections area for a local support group. While we make every effort to ensure the quality of the web sites that we
provide links to, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of any information on
other sites.
